One main distinguishing feature at Faith Lutheran is the faculty!  Just over 200 individuals make up our faculty and staff and each year new teachers join in.  This year we welcomed twelve new members that first and foremost love Jesus, love teaching, and love helping students grow.

MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHERS

Hello.  My name is Anna Beyer and I will be teaching 7th and 8th grade Theology classes at Faith Lutheran this Fall.  I have been teaching for the past 36 years, the last 16 as the high school Theology teacher at Victory Christian Church and Academy in San Diego, California (formerly known as Lutheran High School).  I am single and living in Las Vegas with my sister, mom, and step-dad who we help take care of.  My favorite thing about San Diego is the weather and the beaches and if you ever go there that's where you should hang out!  I grew up in the mid-west, Michigan and Minnesota respectively, and went to college at Concordia University in St. Paul, Minnesota.  I have spent my entire ministry in California and now am blessed to be here in Nevada with family and a new adventure at Faith.  I love Christian music, swimming, watching football, playing cards and teaching.  The most important thing you should know about me is that I love Jesus and can't wait to meet and connect with all these young minds here at Faith and help them to develop a relationship with their Savior.  I feel overwhelming blessed to be a part of this new family at Faith and look forward to meeting as many of you as I can.

Hi!  I'm Michelle Dwyer, and I'm blessed to teach 8th grade English this year.  My family and I just moved here from Dallas, TX where I spent the last 8 years teaching middle school students at Prince of Peace Christian School.  Spending time with my 3 year old and 1 year old daughters, Charli and Dani, is my favorite hobby, and we love spending time outside, reading, creating art, and playing with our two dogs, Ajax and Khali.  My husband David is still working in Dallas for the Frisco RoughRiders Minor League Baseball team and spending most weekends with us.  I earned my Bachelor's Degrees in Secondary Education and Theology from Concordia University Chicago and my Master's Degree in Family Science from Concordia University St. Paul.  Fun facts: I grew up in St. Louis, home of gooey butter cake, where I was a maroon and gold Crusader at Lutheran High School North.  I am most excited to get to know everyone in the Faith Family and explore the beautiful mountains around here.

NTP - Matthew ChilmanMatthew Chilman

Mr. Matthew Chilman returns to Faith Lutheran as an alumni to teach Government and Faith 1 class.  You may have heard the name Chilman because of our fantastic Accounting Controller, Julie Chilman and her husband John Chilman, high school counselor.  Matthew's brother Micah graduated from Faith in 2018.  Mr. Matt Chilman previously taught at St. John Lutheran in Ocala, FL and did his student teaching at Concordia Shanghai, China.  He attended Concordia University Nebraska majoring in Education and earning a Lutheran Teaching Diploma and played football.  "I enjoy hanging out with friends and family, watching/playing sports, staying active, and enjoying God's creation."  He is most looking forward to coaching football and working with some of my old teachers.  "Football taught me a lot about life, how to work well with others, and how to deal with adversity."

I am teaching Trial & Appellate Advocacy, Persuasion & Argument, Honors Persuasion & Argument, and I will be assisting with the Mock Trial Team.  I am married to my wonderful husband, Ryan Hayes and we have three children: Harrison, Hartlee, and Baby Bruce, who is just 10 months old.  We have two French bulldogs named Leonard and Penny after our favorite show, the Big Bang Theory!  I grew up in Northern Virginia, which is in Washington D.C.'s orbit.  Living in the greater D.C. area was awesome! I loved visiting the United States Capitol, the White House, and the Lincoln Memorial.  The Washington Monument is one of my favorite sites.  I went to undergrad at Portland State University, and double majored in Criminology and Criminal Justice.  I obtained my law degree from the William S. Boyd School of Law at the University of Nevada Las Vegas.  The professors at my law school encouraged me to find my voice, and I realized the impact that one voice can have on an audience of many.  I love hiking, traveling, cooking, and spending time with my husband and children.  I am most excited about preparing students for a future in law.  It is my hope that many students at Faith Lutheran decide to attend law school and go on to do wonderful, exciting things in the legal field.  The last thing students should know about me is that I am a huge Disney fan!

This year I will teach AP art, Studio art, Printmaking and Drawing/Painting.  We moved to Las Vegas two years ago from Salt Lake City.  We have four sons (Peyton: 27, Owen: 25, Kelton: 23 and Tristan: 21) and three daughters (Ali: 20, Katie:18 and Anna:10). Katie graduated from FLHS in 2020.  I have taught high school art since 2007 and my husband is a retired Air Force Captain who now flies for Southwest Airlines.  I am grateful to be here at Faith after two years working for CCSD at both Fertitta Middle School and Del Sol High School.  I grew up in New York and think that if you go to New York, after seeing the city, head upstate where I grew up!  Lake Ontario and the Adirondack Mountains are my old stomping grounds.  I am practically from Canada, Eh?  You can see it from my parents house.  My training is from Southern Utah University: BFA Art Education, 2007, a New York Silversmithing apprenticeship, 2011 and the University of Florida: MA Art Education, 2017.  Some of my hobbies include hiking, skiing, jewelry making, painting, printmaking, and traveling.  I am most excited about being a part of the culture of our school :) and I love young adults and guiding them towards excellence.  All students should know that art shows and field trips are a part of my curriculum.  Students need to see artwork in visual culture as well as share what they have made in a public space.  Art is a part of daily living and using it as a means to communicate social issues and to support service projects is essential to experiencing art as its intended purpose.

IMG_7505Ernie Rama

Coach Ernie Rama joins our high school full time as a PE and Athletic Performance teacher and newly appointed Head Coach of the high school Boys Basketball Program.  He is originally from the state of Washington but has lived in Las Vegas for 12yrs.  Coach Rama graduated from Concordia University in Portland, Oregon with a degree in Health and Physical Education, while playing basketball.   Students should know that Coach Rama loves to travel and has been to several countries around the world because he played professional basketball.  "I love being active and outdoors, such as, hiking, surfing etc... and I love playing all sports including training in MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu.  I'm excited to join the Faith family because of its amazing faculty, staff and students and be in a place where I can spread God's love and word."

IMG_2450Jay Staggs

Mr. Jay Staggs joins our high school to teach Psychology, AP Psychology & Physical Education along with coaching for our Football program.  He loves his family: wife, Mandi, daughters, Jordyn Leigh (13), Raegan Marie (9), Presley Reese (6) and Dog Aja Ann (14).  He grew up in Goleta "The Goodland" CA and now calls Las Vegas, Nevada home.  Mr. Staggs received his education at UNLV earning a BA in Sociology/Physical Education in 2007 and his Masters in Public Administration from UNLV in 2014.  Something he learned while at UNLV that he still uses to this day is the importance of Discipline, Ownership, and Character (and never forgetting that his wife is the greatest!).  "I enjoy travel with my FAM, BBQing/cooking, weight lifting, golf, competing at card games, and coaching."  Mr. Staggs is most excited about working with, serving, educating & preparing tomorrows leaders today.  His favorite Bible verse is James 1:2-4, "Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."

I will teach Criminal Justice and Forensic Science in the high school.  I am married to Heather and together we have 6 children (plus my nephew whom we raised), 4 grand children, and 2 German Shepherds- Lola and Charli.  I have lived in Las Vegas since 1993!  I grew up in Orange County, a few blocks from Knott's Berry Farm and went to high school across the street from Disneyland!  I am retired from the U.S. Navy and the Las Vegas Metro Police Department.  I attended National University in San Diego, California and I have a Masters degree in Forensic Sciences.  Something that has stuck with me since attending school is that every life is fragile and precious.  We must stand up for those you cannot stand up for themselves.  ALL things are in God's hands.  I enjoy running, reading, playing the drums, spending time with my family and I am looking forward to teaching high school and having my daughter Hailey in my class.  Lastly, I LOVE James Bond movies and Marie Calendars strawberry pie!
