Dangers, Data, and Divinity

As the Director of Social Norms here at Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School, I am passionate about helping our students avoid risky behaviors like drugs, alcohol, tobacco, and sex.  This January we have launched our Faith Facts campaign with renewed vigor to involve the entire Faith Family.  Faith Facts is a major undertaking that is part of a comprehensive ‘Avoid Risky Behaviors’ program.  To summarize the comprehensive approach, I will summarize it in three words ‘Danger, Data, and Divinity”.

What Happens Next?  Helping Your Kids Through Last Week’s Tragedy

 Adults have spent the last week helping children process the events of October 1st.  As life slowly begins to return to what will be the new normal in Vegas, many are left wondering what conversations are left. How will we know if our kids are showing signs of trauma?  As a mother, the wife of a first responder, and a counselor at Faith Lutheran, I have guided many discussions this week and understand the work that still lies before us as we all recover. Surviving the Middle School Transition

The trouble with middle school is that it is full of middle schoolers!  Yes, middle school can be a time of awkwardness and self-doubt but it can also be a wonderful time of transformation toward independence.  The amount of change, development and growth that happens during middle school is just as much as it was from birth to age three!  Navigating this can be challenging for both teens and parents.
