800 students, 23 service locations, 1 SPECIAL day

On Friday, November 17th, Faith Lutheran Middle School students, teachers, and parents were found throughout the Las Vegas valley being the hands and feet of Jesus.  Each of the advisory classes served at different locations including local churches, elementary schools, care centers, and non-profit organizations.  The students then returned to school and the day ended in Chapel for a time of worship, sharing, and reflection.  Below are just a few pictures from the event.

We praise God for the wonderful day and are excited for Service Day next year!

Mrs. Bartel's students helping in the chicken coop and gardening at Treem Elementary.

"We were volunteering at Redeemer Lutheran with the preschool where we spent a lot of one-on-one time with the kids and we served them a Thanksgiving lunch. It was a beautiful day on many accounts." - Mr. Anderson, MS Teacher.

At the Nevada Adult Day Healthcare Center, students from Ms. Royuk's and Mrs. Stepanek's class spent time with the clients playing games and decorating cards.

Mrs. Hine's class served at El Jen Rehabilitation and Convalescent Home and wrote a poem about the experience.

Serving others is what God has called us to do,

Helping, loving, listening, caring, most of all being true.

We were a bit nervous, and worried about setting the tone,

But then we arrived, and jumped right in, at the El Jen Home.

The residents of El Jen have stories a plenty to share,

Some of them even talked about the crosses they bare.

We learned their rich history, as they shared their past,

Their bodies are frail, but their memories still last.

Crowded around the Bingo table was for most their biggest desire,

Although Alva, when it came to basketball was certainly on fire.

Bingo winners burst with joy and smiled big for all,

The garden walks were beautiful, even though it’s fall.

Daryl used a walker, as he moved from game to game,

Lena couldn’t hear, but we loved her just the same.

So what did we learn as we worked through our time?

People are awesome and God’s love is divine.

For this opportunity to Faith Lutheran we shout, HURRAY!

Age didn’t matter as we did talk and play.

God we thank you for the friends we made today,

Amen, Amen, Amen, is all that’s left to say!
