On January 13, 2018, Faith Lutheran hosted a record 78 teams from southern Nevada and California at its 3rd annual VEX Robotics Tournament. This year we expanded to include middle school VEX IQ Teams in addition to high school VRC. Faith Lutheran Teams competed at Sierra Vista’s tournament in December, our tournament in January, and are looking forward to the VEX IQ and VRC Championships in April.

A few weeks ago, I was invited to a small luncheon to hear Jeremy Aguero from Applied Analysis and Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval speak about Nevada’s economy. Generously hosted by Nevada State Bank, these two men shared exciting and pertinent information about our state and city – all of which is great news for Faith Lutheran and our future.
We are so pleased to introduce the newest member of the Faith Family - Esther! Esther is a two month old Goldendoodle. She will begin working full time at Faith during the 2018-2019 school year but will be a regular visitor to campus during this training year. I’d like to take a moment to share more information about Esther, how she was “hired”, and what her role at Faith Lutheran Middle School & High School will look like.

Dearest Faith Families,
It’s the most wonderful time of the year (in my best Andy Williams’ voice!). The sights, the sounds, the smells, the tastes…I hope everyone loves the Christmas season! Around Faith Lutheran, our students, faculty, and staff will enjoy some well deserved time off to spend time with family and friends. And maybe open some presents.

A host of new terms has entered the vernacular to describe the actions, attitudes, and responses of Millennials and adolescents today. Why are we seeing such a phenomenon? More importantly, how can we raise strong, resilient, and independent adolescents who grow into well-adjusted adults?

As a parent, the most frequent point of contention I have with my teen and tween is homework. As a school counselor, it is a frequent concern voiced by parents. Homework can quickly become a power struggle, turning kitchen tables into battlefields and consuming family time in the evenings. While there is no easy rule for how many minutes of homework a child “should” have each night, and some nights will have more homework than others, there are ways to help ease the burden.

The popularity and reliance on social media has skyrocketed in the past decade requiring news organizations to expand their outreach to platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Student Stephen Schneider '18 saw how using social media could benefit the broadcast program at Faith Lutheran so he assembled a team of the most talented student journalists who would expand the program's scope even further.

“Of course you’d send your kids to Christian schools…You and your wife teach at one…”
Yet, our family would fare better financially if we went back to the public school our children were in two years ago. So then, “Why would I send my kids to a Christian school?”
